Die Band CAVILLATOR (lateinisch = der Spötter) wurde im November 1990 von Jens Sonnenberg (Gitarre) und Rouven Thalhammer (Gesang) nach dem Split der Band ZADOK gegründet.
Schnell waren mit den Zwillingsbrüdern Fabian (Gitarre) und Henning Höfsäß (Schlagzeug) zwei neue und motivierte Mitstreiter gewonnen. Rouven übernahm zusätzlich zum Gesang noch den Bass. Musikalisch wollte man eine anspruchsvolle Mischung aus Power/Speed und Thrash Metal mit progressiven Elementen kreieren.
In den Texten wurden vermehrt gesellschaftskritische, persönliche und politische Themen behandelt.
Der erste Auftritt fand am 15.06.1991 in Pforzheim auf dem Rathausplatz statt. Dieser wurde kurzfristig wegen zu hoher Lautstärke von der Polizei unterbrochen, durfte aber nach der Unterbrechung fertig gespielt werden.
Im Juli 1991 wurde im Proberaum das erste 4-Song-Demo „Gate to the Golden Age“ innerhalb von vier Tagen aufgenommen und abgemischt.
Für das Demo gab es reichlich gute Kritiken und CAVILLATOR spielte in den darauffolgenden Jahren einige Auftritte.
Ende 1993 verließ Fabian die Band, weil er sich mehr Zeit für sein Studium nehmen wollte. Der freie Posten an der Gitarre wurde recht schnell durch Oliver Hill besetzt, der ein langjähriger Freund und Fan der Band war.
Im Jahre 1994 gingen CAVILLATOR in das Sound & Words Studio in Dürrn, um das zweite Demo „Circulation“ einzuspielen. Es wurden im Juli 1994 zunächst sechs Songs sowie drei kurze Instrumentalpassagen aufgenommen. Dem damaligen Studiobesitzer gefiel das Material so gut, dass er eine komplette CD veröffentlichen wollte. Aus diesem Grund wurden im September 1994 noch zwei weitere Songs aufgenommen.
Aufgrund von internen Problemen zwischen dem damaligen Besitzer und dessen Techniker/Mitbesitzer, wurde die CD nicht realisiert und die Songs konnten erst im März 1995 von einem weiteren Techniker abgemischt werden. Es blieb deshalb bei einem Demo.
Nach den Aufnahmen zu „Circulation“ wollte sich Rouven ausschließlich auf den Gesang konzentrieren. Der freie Posten am Bass wurde sehr schnell durch einen langjährigen Freund und Fan ausgefüllt und fortan bediente Oliver Schort die tiefen Töne.
Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung von „Circulation“ im Jahre 1995 hatte Jens einen schweren Arbeitsunfall, wodurch er für nahezu zwei Jahre bei der Band als Gitarrist ausfiel. Zu dieser Zeit kehrte Fabian wieder zurück, um der Band auszuhelfen.
Im Sommer 1996 begaben sich CAVILLATOR in das Pentagon Sound Production Studio in Bergheim bei Köln, um drei Songs für den Sampler „Children of Tomorrow Vol.4“ aufzunehmen.
Mit diesem Sampler, auf dem fünf Bands zu hören sind, bewarb der Produzent/Studioinhaber die CD bei diversen Labels- um für die teilnehmenden Bands einen Plattenvertrag an Land zu ziehen.
Bei den Aufnahmen hatte Fabian ebenfalls die zweite Gitarre eingespielt und eine Freundin einige Gesangspassagen beigesteuert. Leider kam kein Plattenvertrag zustande.
Ende 1996 verließ Rouven die Band. Daraufhin übernahmen der wieder genesene Jens und Oliver Hill zusätzlich zu den Gitarren den Gesang, da man nach längerer Suche keinen geeigneten Ersatz für Rouven fand. In dieser Besetzung spielte man noch einige Auftritte.
1997 wurde im Homestudio von Jens noch ein weiteres 4-Song-Demo in Angriff genommen. Dies sollte den Namen „Fear“ tragen.
Die Band verlor im Jahre 1997 ersatzlos den Proberaum, was die Motivation stark nach unten zog und so wurde die Band nach einem letzten Gig Ende 1997 aufgelöst. Letztendlich wurde deshalb das angefangene Demo „Fear“ auch nicht mehr fertiggestellt.
Im Jahre 2005 nahm Jens nochmals einen Anlauf und wollte das Schaffen von CAVILLATOR mit einer eigenen CD würdigen.
Erste Pläne wurden geschmiedet und es wurden im Jahre 2006 die vier Songs des 1997 begonnenen „Fear“ Demos von Oliver Schort am Bass und Jens am Gesang fertiggestellt.
Jens plante eine CD, auf welcher die kompletten Aufnahmen der “Circulation“ Studio Sessions, das unveröffentlichte „Fear“ Demo sowie drei unveröffentlichte Songs, die nur einmal live zu hören waren, zu finden sind.Im Jahre 2007 wurde die CD von Michael Kunzmann im MK2 Studio gemastert. Doch aus verschiedenen Gründen sollte es bis ins Jahr 2023 dauern, die CD endgültig fertigzustellen und zu veröffentlichen.

The band CAVILLATOR (Latin = the mocker) was founded in November 1990 by Jens Sonnenberg (guitar) and Rouven Thalhammer (vocals) after the split of the band ZADOK.
They quickly found two new and motivated comrades-in-arms in the twin brothers Fabian (guitar) and Henning Höfsäß (drums). Rouven took over the bass in addition to the vocals. Musically, they wanted to create an ambitious mixture of Power/Speed and Thrash Metal with progressive elements.
The lyrics often dealt with socially critical, personal and political topics.
The first gig took place on 15.06.1991 in Pforzheim on the town hall square. It was briefly interrupted by the police because the volume was too loud, but the band was allowed to finish playing after the interruption.
In July 1991 the first 4-song demo "Gate to the Golden Age" was recorded and mixed in the rehearsal room within four days.
The demo got plenty of good reviews and CAVILLATOR played some gigs in the following years.
At the end of 1993 Fabian left the band because he wanted to take more time for his studies. The vacant guitar position was quickly filled by Oliver Hill, a long-time friend and fan of the band.
In 1994 CAVILLATOR went to the Sound & Words Studio in Dürrn to record the second demo "Circulation". Six songs and three short instrumental passages were recorded in July 1994. The studio owner at the time liked the material so much that he wanted to release a complete CD. For this reason, two more songs were recorded in September 1994.
Due to internal problems between the then owner and his engineer/co-owner, the CD was not realized and the songs could not be mixed by another engineer until March 1995. It therefore remained a demo.
After the recordings of "Circulation" Rouven wanted to concentrate exclusively on vocals. The vacant position on the bass was very quickly filled by a long-time friend and fan, and from then on Oliver Schort handled the low notes.
Shortly after the release of "Circulation" in 1995, Jens had a serious accident at work, which caused him to be absent from the band as guitarist for almost two years. At this time Fabian returned to help out the band.
In summer 1996 CAVILLATOR went to the Pentagon Sound Production Studio in Bergheim near Cologne to record three songs for the sampler "Children of Tomorrow Vol.4".
With this sampler, on which five bands can be heard, the producer/studio owner promoted the CD to various labels in order to land a record deal for the participating bands.
Fabian also played the second guitar on the recordings and a female friend contributed some vocal parts. Unfortunately, no record deal was signed.
Rouven left the band at the end of 1996. Then Jens, who had recovered, and Oliver Hill took over the vocals in addition to the guitars, as no suitable replacement for Rouven could be found after a long search. The band played a few more gigs with this line-up.
In 1997 another 4-song demo was tackled in Jens' home studio. This was to be called "Fear".
In 1997 the band lost their rehearsal room without replacement, which dragged down the motivation and so the band was disbanded after one last gig at the end of 1997. In the end, the demo "Fear" was never finished.
In 2005 Jens tried again and wanted to honour the work of CAVILLATOR with an own CD.
First plans were made and in 2006 the four songs of the 1997 demo "Fear" were finished by Oliver Schort on bass and Jens on vocals.
Jens planned a CD that would include the complete recordings of the "Circulation" studio sessions, the unreleased "Fear" demo as well as three unreleased songs that were only heard live once.
In 2007, the CD was mastered by Michael Kunzmann at MK2 Studio. But for various reasons it would take until 2023 to finally finish and release the CD.
